M ozambique is the third largest tobacco producer in Africa, behind Malawi and Zimbabwe. Tobacco production has been important to the country since the time of colonization. In recent years the production increased from around 60,000 tons in 2009 to around 90,000. The creation of a processing factory in the nation is known to have contributed to higher levels of production of Mozambican tobacco.
