Growth Of Tobacco Output

(% increase between 2014-17)

Tobacco production in Azerbaijan has been increasing in recent years. The growth of the sector has been spurred by efforts of the Government to reduce dependence on imports. The country will increase domestic tobacco leaf production to satisfy the demand for domestic tobacco products and to increase the export potential of tobacco. The production growth is set to continue to increase until the threshold set by the Government of 12,000 tons is produced by 2021. As such, it is expected that the crop will occupy a role of increased importance in certain regions of the country. It is estimated that tobacco product sales generated revenues of close to US$ 1 billion in 2016.
