Share of the market

Even though tobacco occupies much less land than other crops grown in the country, it generates substantially higher returns in comparison. It is also worth stating that the tobacco industry is the only possibility if a farmer wants to receive prompt payments. Tobacco is the only crop in Pakistan whose yield is higher than the world average, therefore being able to compete with larger producers. The quality of Pakistani tobacco also enables the possibility of the crop being exported, thus generating significant foreign revenue proceeds. Tobacco is an important contributor to the Government coffers with revenues surpassing the US$ 1 billion mark. Due to the number of people employed across the sector’s value chain, the industry has a very important economic impact in the Pakistani economy.
