Italy is the largest European tobacco leaf producing country. Tobacco is grown in several Italian regions such as Tuscany, Umbia, Campania, Vento and Lazio.  Tobacco products revenue represented over US$ 22 billion, which resulted in Government revenue of US$ 15.4 billion (excise and value added tax). Illicit trade comprises 5.8% of the total trade and controlling it would generate a further US$ 866 million, representing an important slice of income for the country. Italian tobacco is regarded as one of the best fillers available in the market.
